My Story:

Done! I was first introduced to this by my Dad’s eldest brother when he first came to live with us. He was a retiree from the states and brought all his trinkets. He even had a weathered book on how to solve it. His rubiks cube is over 25yrs old and still works! I should know. It’s currently in my university apartment.

My fav was a rubiks cube key chain I got from Trinidad and Tobago Mathematics Olympiad ( I was a geek) for their prize giving/ award programme. At the time when I got it, my bro was fascinated by it, so I gave it to him. It somehow made its way back into my possessions :D

Last story: I bought one at the beginning of the year for my boyfriend. He was a pro and his fell apart after constant use. I remember giving it to him and trying to have a conversation with him after. It was impossible. Boys and their toys.

I have slowly come to realise that I have bought all the boys I ever liked a rubix cube. :-| I guess I do have a “type”. LOL

Have you ever solved a Rubiks Cube? Let me know below.

My Story:

Growing up, my bro and I did not have a console. UNTIL my cousin moved in with us and brought his Nintendo 64.

Eventually the Gameboy came out. I loved to play Pokemon (still do)

I eventually moved onto PC video games. The first few games I ever bought were a Nancy Drew game, Harry Potter #1, Lord of the RIngs #1, and an expansion pack for The Sims. At the time I did not know that I needed the actual game for the expansion pack to work! LOL

First person RPGs were a fav. Warcraft and then of course more Sims. I have played all subsequent versions (The Sims, The Sims 2 and The Sims 3) and the majority of their expansion packs.

My Story:

My dad taught my brother and I to play when we were younger. I had a sneaking suspicion that he wanted to have someone to play with. I remember seeing him arrange the pieces on the board and telling us about each piece one by one. I was too young to appreciate it at the time, and I believe I went to play with my puzzles. (I love me some puzzles)

My brother took up the sport and played against my dad ruthlessly until one day he eventually beat him. My dad says that he let him and I have never seen them play since.

My brother also had a magnetised chess set that folded in half and stored the pieces when not in use. I was too young to comprehend how to play against him so I would “borrow” his chess board when not in use and have the chess pieces move as characters as part of my story. The knight piece was of course simply a horse because it looked like one. When I was done with the battle field that was the chess board, I would turn it over and use the storage compartments as the palace. Fun times.

I eventually learned how to play in the future.

Chess anyone?

My Story:

Most high school’s in T&T teach one foreign language, Spanish. A few others, like St. Stephen’s College, Presentation College, and Naparima Girls High School offered 2 languages, French and Spanish.

I’m not sure how other schools taught them, but I learnt from Form 1 Spanish and French until Form 3. 3 years of French. I remember being taught by this magnificent Polish woman who spoke in addition to her native language, Spanish, French, Portuguese and English.

At the end of Form 3, when choosing subjects for O’levels, my school made it mandatory that we study at least one foreign language. I chose Spanish because it came more natural to me having been exposed to the language earlier in my life and having an older brother who studied it as well. It seemed to have been a wiser choice, given T&T’s proximity to Venezuela.

However in subsequent years I found myself travelling to French- speaking islands more and communicating with a cousin who married a Frenchie and now lived in Paris. My background in French certainly came in handy

One day I hope to do a refresher course and visit the Louvre  In my dreams, I would live in France for a few months and soak up the culture and art. The goal would be to one day speak like a native and hopefully not butcher the beautiful language.

Should I be saying I accomplished this badge? Well I am currently not fluent in it, but I did do it once upon a time and know enough to get by. :D I am checking this Lifescouts one as done.

What is "Lifescouts"? My Badges

A cool project I saw where you "collect" badges of various life events and you share them and your story by reblogging on Tumblr. The folks at Lifescouts add new badges regularly so you have new stories to share and things to accomplish with friends. If you would like to start collecting your own, head on over to lifescouts.com.

The idea fascinates me because I always wanted to try one of those bucket-list type things (or make my own) and it seems a great way to accomplish new things. What I like is that the various badges are like guides. You have the flexibility to decide what it means to accomplish a badge. I also like it because it gives you the opportunity to connect with friends, get to know them better and hear their stories, or challenge yourself to make new memories of your own.
Apparently each month the creators also pick a theme and create new badges surrounding that theme. They change their logo accordingly. Like Google doodles lol and you know how much I love Google doodles. :)

So now you know what you are seeing when I do a post about it.

I am going to update the post below with all my "badges" and add links to the stories as I publish them. However if you would like to read all my stories published thus far, click the following link: The Island by Shaz's Lifescout Stories.
